Feedback

Given that I just uploaded a rough edit of my music video, I asked for a bit of feedback to see what I could improve to bring up the quality of my vid. Here's what they had to say:

Emily: "Maybe cut down the length of some of the acting shots, cos they sometimes seem a bit long when the actors are hesitating about what to do".

Lily: "The chorus occasionally gets a bit repetetive, so maybe at some more shots to vary it up a bit."

Since receiving this feedback I've cut down the lengths of the clips to tighten up the editing, added a few varying shots to the chorus to keep interest and I am now hopefully very close to a final edit.

Stop Motions!

I've begun filming and editing all my clips together using Adobe Premier Elements. It's still not quite finished as I am now experimenting with effects, but in the meantime, here's a little preview of what I've managed to complete so far.

24. Risk Assessment

HAZARDOUS !
Here is a risk assessment I have conducted which will act as a guideline in terms of what could potentially be hazardous during my filming and what I would have to be aware of. Nothing is particularly dangerous, just a bit bothersome, but it does help executing this task as I'm more aware of what could interfere with my filming.

23. Props

As my video features a scene of actors messing around in the art block whilst painting, I will need to collect props that will aid me execute these actions. So here's the list:

Paints
I will be needing paint, and lots of it! Colours ranging from white to black in order to encompass all the colours of the rainbows that will reflect a whole range of different emotions relating to the melody and lyrics of the track.
Paintbrushes
Paintbrushes will be used to spread the paint, as well as hands.
Paper
Paper is essential as this is where the actors will be painting. It will also help as not to make too much of a mess, which I am sure the art teachers and captains will appreciate.

UPDATE

As my deadline is approaching, I am beginning to feel more and more overwhelmed by the tasks I have set myself to complete before the christmas break. And for this reason I have altered some minor points of my video which might aid with the diminishing of the workload, but heighten its success as it will allow me to really perfect it.

The stop motion will no longer be of drawings, but actual images as I feel I have more of a knack for photography than I do for illustration, and the process will also be less time consuming.

So far these are the changes I have concluded, but I will keep it updated as the process develops further.

22. Actors

And with the choosing of locations comes the choosing of my actors, and who better than Anna Stoss, Philipp Marquardt and Paul Antauer? Here are some pics of these infamous guys and my reasons for casting them.

Anna Stoss
Anna Stoss was thrown into the mix for one main reason; she is a girl. Not only does this add variety to the actors, but it also ensures that my video will appeal to botch boys and girls, therefore targeting a larger audience and increasing it's chances of success. Other than this, Anna has a unique style relating to the independent genre, whilst her bubbly and cheerful personality link back to the pop aspect and reflect the bouncy melody and lyrics. In addition, I have worked with her before during my previous year of Media Studies and found that we make a great team as she is enthusiastic and willing about my work.
Philipp Marquardt
Here is Philipp, his presence in my vid essential, as he brings a certain versatility to the video as his style adds contrast to the others. He's more of the neon and hip hop scene with his baggy hoodies, and brightly coloured accessories, thus relating to the pop aspect of the video. In addition, Philipp, Anna and I are close friends which will make the act of working together that much more smooth as we are familiar with each other's personalities.
Paul Antauer
Paul Anatuer and I, like Anna, have worked together on my previous Media Studies project during my AS year, and this is why I feel confident with my choice, as we are guaranteed to get along well. In addition, he is also close with Anna and Philipp. His style is more 'indie', reflective of Anna's yet his silly and playful personality are ideal for the mise en scene of this vid, as he is required to mess around with friends, a skill with which he is quite confident.

21. Locations

As the due date for my final music video edit is approaching faster and faster, I have now had to really narrow down the places in which I will be shooting my film. Here's a couple of photographs of my locations that will hopefully place an image with the ideas that have been coursing through my head for my music vid. This process has acted as a catalyst in my planning, as it has really woken me up in terms of narrowing down my thoughts and ideas for my vid, making it all the more real.

Art Block
I have chosen to film in the art block, as the messy and colourful surroundings create a sense of comfort and reflect the joyful melody and lyrics of the track perfectly. It also emits an idea of creativity and contains all the resources that I will be needing for my vid, as I intend to have my actors paint for some of the scenes shot in this location. In addition, I am also an art student and therefore the art room is almost always accessible which will aid me greatly in terms of planning my filming.
School Yard
I intend to film on the school yard just outside the art block as it has a great space where my actors will be able to move around freely. I also like the fact that it contains stairs and a wall as I think the use of levels will add interest to my video, as actions will not be executed and repeated over and over again. This area is also accessible on weekends, which will be very useful, as weekends are definitely prime time for filming.

Beach
Here is the beach on which I intend to film many of my scenes as it is one of the main section of my music vid. I chose this particular place due to it's vast space as I feel it will be a good contrast to the school shots that have taken place beforehand. This area is also remarkably beautiful and photogenic, and combined with the fact that it is nearby I feel it's presence to be essential in my video.

20. Shooting Script

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Here is a plan displaying which scenes I will be shooting according to the sections of the track and the time period in which they will be appearing.

**NOTE** During the stop motion sections I will no longer be using drawings, but actual photographs as my creative project has inspired me to use photography instead as it is equally a form of creative expression and I feel that it will allow me to display more skill as taking pictures is a hobby of mine.

19. Animatic

Here is an animatic of my music vid, illustrating which scenes will be playing according to the sections of the song.

Stop Motion

Here is a small interval between the development of my coursework. It's a small creative project that I've created using images that I have taken and a chosen track (The Garden That You Planted- Sea Wolf) and editing them together on Adobe Premier Elements. Although this will not be appearing in my music video, I feel is has helped get the creative juices flowing.
